<野>Euljiro Committee: "Yoon's Work Commencement Order Chooses Confrontation Over Dialogue... Irresponsible and Arbitrary"

[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The Democratic Party's Euljiro Committee condemned President Yoon Suk-yeol's issuance of a work commencement order to truck drivers on strike on the 29th as an "irresponsible and arbitrary form of state governance."

In a statement on the same day, the Euljiro Committee said, "Today, President Yoon Suk-yeol chose 'confrontation' instead of dialogue by issuing a work commencement order to the truck drivers on strike," adding, "Currently, a 'Cargo Truck Transportation Business Act Amendment' related to the Safe Freight Rate System has been proposed in the National Assembly, and legislative discussions are underway. Despite the high possibility of causing social conflict, President Yoon's hasty decision to issue the work commencement order is an irresponsible and arbitrary form of state governance."

The Euljiro Committee stated, "In June, the Yoon Suk-yeol administration promised to continue the Safe Freight Rate System and expand the applicable items, but just before the system's sunset, it presented a regressive alternative of a 'three-year extension of the sunset' without any prior consultation," adding, "The Yoon administration has offered neither explanation nor apology regarding this."

They said, "The work commencement order is a system introduced to nullify the truck drivers' strike, constituting a forced labor and strike-restricting unconstitutional measure," and urged, "We call on the government to abandon the dangerous idea of suppressing by force through the work commencement order and to engage in sincere dialogue with the Cargo Solidarity Headquarters."

The Euljiro Committee also stated, "The People Power Party should also come to the discussion table on the bill and take responsibility by participating in the legislative discussions before the worst situation occurs."
