[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Koo Dae-sun] Kim Jeong-a (50), a professor in the Vocal Music Department at Yeungnam University, received the '36th Geumbok Cultural Award' on the 29th.

The Geumbok Cultural Award was established in 1987 by Geumbokju Co., Ltd. to fulfill corporate social responsibility, selecting and awarding individuals or groups who have contributed to the development of regional culture and arts annually. Recently, the Geumbok Cultural Foundation selected winners in literature, music, and fine arts, with Professor Kim Jeong-a chosen as the recipient in the music category.

Professor Kim graduated from the Vocal Music Department at Seoul National University and studied abroad in Italy. In September 2007, she joined Yeungnam University’s College of Music as a professor in the Vocal Music Department. During her studies in Italy, she swept international vocal competitions with dazzling technique, high-level high-pitched vocalization, and dramatic singing. After returning to Korea, she has been actively engaged in solo recitals, leading roles in operas, and collaborations with symphony orchestras.

Since joining Yeungnam University in 2007, Professor Kim has been recognized for her outstanding capabilities in education and research, receiving the Excellent Research Professor Award twice and the Excellent Teaching Professor Award three times. She is also actively involved in the performing arts scene, contributing to the development and dissemination of art songs.

Following her leading role in the closing performance of last year’s 18th Daegu International Opera Festival in 'The Puritans,' she appeared as Sim Cheong in this year’s closing performance of the Daegu International Opera Festival, the opera 'Sim Cheong' by Yun Isang, receiving high praise for her astonishing vocal technique and musical interpretation.
