Recognized for Contributions to Alleviating Rural Labor Shortage and Advancing Agricultural Modernization
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Kim San, the governor of Muan County, Jeonnam, received the 2022 Regional Agricultural Development Leading Person Award on the 29th for his contributions to the development of local agriculture.
The Regional Agricultural Development Leading Person Award is the most prestigious award organized by the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation. It is a system that selects and awards heads of local governments who have greatly contributed to the development of regional agriculture through policies for agricultural and rural development and cooperative projects with the agricultural cooperative, such as increasing farm income and improving the quality of life of farmers.
Governor Kim San made efforts to implement agricultural policies suitable for the local community based on communication with farmers, and signed an MOU with Silang City in the Philippines to solve the rural labor shortage problem, which greatly helped alleviate the rural labor shortage in Muan County by introducing foreign seasonal workers.
In addition, to promote local agricultural development, he carried out cooperative projects with the agricultural cooperative, including elderly farmers' work delegation services, agricultural drones, agricultural and livestock dump transport equipment, convenient chairs for farm work, and pilot projects for the supply-type smart farm complex, which received great responses from local farmers. He plans to continue promoting cooperative projects with the agricultural cooperative in the future.
Furthermore, he is promoting the construction of the nation's largest advanced agricultural complex and the establishment of the National Parsley and Vegetable Research Institute, expanding the scientific farming research base by implementing the Rural New Vitality Plus project and establishing logistics and distribution automation systems, and leading the sixth industrialization of agriculture to respond to changes in the agricultural environment such as climate change caused by global warming and the opening of agricultural product markets, thereby promoting various agricultural and rural policies.
Recognized for these contributions, Governor Kim San was selected as the recipient of the 2022 National Agricultural Cooperative Federation 'Regional Agricultural Development Leading Person Award,' the only one in Jeonnam Province. On this day, eight heads of local governments nationwide received the award.
Governor Kim San said, "I believe this award was received together with all the farmers who strive for the development of agriculture in Muan County," and added, "Muan County is a city combining urban and rural areas, and we will continue to think and work hard for the fusion of urban and rural areas and the development of the rural regional economy."
