Held 4 Times on Campus with Expert Invitations, Introducing Trends in Media Technology Development
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seonsik] Suncheon National University (President Ko Youngjin) announced that based on the ‘2022 Cultural Content R&D Professional Workforce Training Project,’ it conducted a workshop over four sessions during October and November to train cultural technology professionals specializing in campus and Jeonnam Provincial Museum of Art extended reality convergence system solution research and development.
Under the guidance of Professors Kim Dongjo and Yang Hanbin of the Department of Visual Design at Suncheon National University, the workshop involved Suncheon National University students, trainees, and subject matter experts. The sessions were held as follows: ▲1st session on Wednesday, October 5 at Suncheon National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Building ▲2nd session on Thursday, October 13 at Suncheon National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Building ▲3rd session on Thursday, October 27 at Suncheon National University College of Humanities and Arts ▲4th session on Friday, November 11 at Jeonnam Provincial Museum of Art.
The first workshop, themed ‘Introduction to Immersive Digital Media and the 4th Industrial Revolution Era as New Objects,’ featured about 25 participants including Park Kyunghyun, head of the Dambitgil Project Team at Damyang County Cultural Foundation, and members of the joint research institution SC Creative. They exchanged ideas on immersive media and the utilization of VR, AR, MR technologies and immersive digital media.
The second workshop, themed ‘Media and Systems,’ was attended by about 25 people including Kim Changkyum, chairman of the Korea Media Art Association, and representatives from SC Creative Co., Ltd. They introduced the ‘Korea Media Art Association’ for media art artists and discussed issues encountered during media art implementation as well as policies and systems for media art development.
The fourth workshop, held at Jeonnam Provincial Museum of Art with 45 attendees including joint institution SC Creative Co., Ltd., featured expert lectures directly from artists Kim Seola and Lee Inam.
Under the themes ‘Imaginary Creatures in Memories Transformed by Extended Reality’ (artist Kim Seola) and ‘New Media Art, Breathing Life into It’ (artist Lee Inam), lectures were given on extended reality content applicable to two-dimensional art and the fusion of extended reality with artworks.
Professor Kim Dongjo of the Department of Visual Design at Suncheon National University, the overall project leader, said, “The workshop was a meaningful opportunity to learn about various media art cases and production processes, providing a comprehensive view of the convergence between cultural arts and extended reality technology.” He added, “We will continue to strive to provide opportunities for students and participants in the project to experience rich media technologies and communicate with experts.”
Meanwhile, the ‘2022 Cultural Content R&D Professional Workforce Training Project’ is a project to nurture local talent in cultural content, involving the professional institution Korea Creative Content Agency, the lead research and development institution Suncheon National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, and joint research and development institutions SC Creative Co., Ltd. and Jeonnam Provincial Museum of Art. The executing institution, Suncheon National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, plans to hold about five expert seminars and workshops in 2023.
