[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] The number of new COVID-19 cases has decreased for two consecutive days compared to the previous week, while the cumulative number of confirmed cases has surpassed 27 million.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced on the 29th at midnight that 71,476 new COVID-19 cases were added, bringing the total to 27,031,319. It took 19 days for the cumulative cases to increase by 1 million since surpassing 26 million on the 10th.
On this day, the number of new cases increased by 49,149 compared to the previous day (22,327), but decreased by 1,384 compared to a week ago on the 22nd (72,860). The previous day also saw 750 fewer new cases compared to a week earlier.
The number of critically ill patients hospitalized remained the same as the previous day at 491. The number of critically ill patients had increased for four consecutive days since the 24th (437), but remained steady on this day. As of 5 p.m. the previous day, the ICU bed occupancy rate was 33.3%.
There were 41 additional new deaths from COVID-19. The cumulative death toll reached 30,454, with a fatality rate of 0.11%.
