[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] Skylabs announced on the 29th that it has appointed Professor Bon-Kwon Koo of the Department of Cardiology at Seoul National University Hospital, a leading authority in heart research, as its Chief Scientific Officer (CSO). Through this recruitment, the company plans to academically strengthen various activities for future pipeline development.

Professor Bon-Kwon Koo is a heart disease expert currently serving as a professor in the Department of Cardiology at Seoul National University. He graduated from Yonsei University College of Medicine and completed his master's and doctoral courses at the same university's graduate school. He is recognized for elevating the diagnosis and treatment of adult heart diseases in Korea to a world-class level by publishing over 500 papers in major domestic and international academic journals.

Recently, he published a research paper on coronary artery disease in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), the most prestigious medical journal worldwide. The Korea-China multicenter research team, including Professor Koo, compared the effectiveness of blood flow measurement methods that assess coronary artery pressure and intravascular ultrasound in patients with moderate stenosis difficult to evaluate by coronary angiography. They demonstrated that both tests are useful in determining treatment plans for patients with coronary artery disease. This study published in NEJM is recognized as a standard guideline by physicians and researchers worldwide.

Professor Koo said, “I joined Skylabs because I deeply resonate with the company’s business vision as a digital healthcare company that diagnoses diseases early and monitors them remotely based on biometric data. By integrating my experience and expertise as a clinical researcher in cardiovascular diseases, I will enhance Skylabs’ competitiveness and promote substantial growth to contribute to improving public health.”

Skylabs CEO Byunghwan Lee also stated, “Professor Bon-Kwon Koo’s extensive experience and expertise in diagnosing, treating, and clinically researching heart diseases are the best in Korea and recognized globally. He will be a great asset in leading digital healthcare with patient-centered products capable of treating and managing chronic disease patients.”
