Why Students Who Finished the CSAT Rush to 'Daehakbaekgwa'

43,000 College Admission Reviews, 2.9 Million Q&A on Entrance Exams and University Information

Why Students Who Finished the CSAT Rush to 'Daehakbaekgwa'

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] The college entrance exam information sharing service ‘Daehak Baekgwa’ is attracting the attention of examinees. With about a month left before the 2023 regular college admission application period, its advantage of providing prospective college students with reliable and detailed admission information has become prominent. On Daehak Baekgwa, over 30,000 questions and answers were exchanged in the roughly ten days following the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT).

Vinulabs, the operator of Daehak Baekgwa, announced on the 29th that about 28,000 Q&A exchanges took place over 11 days after this year’s CSAT, and since the service launch, the cumulative number of college-specific acceptance reviews has exceeded 43,000, while admission counseling and college information Q&A have surpassed 2.9 million. They explained that the significant increase in Q&A volume is linked to examinees’ tendency to consider not only their scores but also their career prospects after admission, personal aptitude, and major suitability from multiple perspectives.

Looking at the proportion of Q&A by category so far, admission counseling accounts for 65%, college life 15%, major and career 10%, and study methods and other Q&A 10%. A Vinulabs official said, "The number of replies and comments is on average more than three times the number of questions, demonstrating that the transfer of seniors’ know-how and mentoring is being conducted broadly and meaningfully."

Since its launch in 2017 to help examinees smoothly obtain essential information for college admissions and prepare actively, Daehak Baekgwa has established itself as a representative admission information sharing service with 600,000 monthly active users (MAU). It is especially linked with Korea’s largest college student platform, ‘Everytime,’ allowing users to check information posted by enrolled senior students.

The main components of Daehak Baekgwa include school-specific pages and communities where users can check acceptance reviews from enrolled senior students who passed the admissions, as well as satisfaction with school life. The college acceptance reviews share detailed scores from the CSAT and school records, major qualifications, and other information that examinees most want to know but find difficult to obtain, serving as a valuable reference. For additional questions, users can post inquiries and receive answers from enrolled students through Q&A mentoring.

Kim Han-i, CEO of Vinulabs, said, "Seniors who have experienced the admissions process firsthand understand the anxious feelings of juniors facing the complex admissions system best. We will strive to remain a leading admission information sharing service that contributes to creating a better admissions journey by facilitating efficient information sharing through Daehak Baekgwa."
