South Korea Defeats Uzbekistan at Asian Women's Handball Championship... Secures Semifinal Spot

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Ye-ju] The South Korean women's handball team secured a spot in the semifinals by achieving three consecutive wins at the 19th Asian Women's Handball Championship.

Under the guidance of head coach Kim Rasmussen (Denmark), South Korea defeated Uzbekistan 41-21 in the third match of Group A on the fourth day of the tournament held at Namdong Gymnasium in Incheon on the 28th.

As a result, South Korea will advance to the semifinals regardless of the outcome of the final group stage match against Iran (3 wins) on the 30th. South Korea had previously achieved overwhelming victories with a margin of over 30 goals against Australia and India.

Since the inaugural tournament in 1987, held 18 times in total, South Korea has dominated Asian women's handball by winning the championship 15 times, except in 2002, 2004, and 2010. Since the 14th tournament in 2012, they have been on a five-title winning streak. The team led by head coach Kim Rasmussen (Denmark) is aiming for their sixth consecutive championship in this tournament.

Ten countries including South Korea, Japan, China, Thailand, Hong Kong, Australia, Iran, India, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan are participating in this tournament. The top five teams will earn the right to participate in the 26th World Championship, jointly hosted by Denmark, Sweden, and Norway in November next year.
