Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, is speaking at the 2022 Women's Violence Eradication Week commemorative event.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] On the afternoon of the 28th, Gyeongsangnam-do held a commemorative event for the 2022 Women Violence Eradication Week at the new government building auditorium.
Women Violence Eradication Week, which runs from November 25 to December 1, has been held annually since 2020 to raise social awareness of violence against women as a social issue by enacting the Basic Act on the Prevention of Violence against Women and to increase public interest in eradicating violence.
About 300 people, including Governor Park Wan-su, related officials, and facility workers, attended the event.
The event, which began with a pre-ceremony performance, featured a screening of a stalking crime prevention video and a special lecture by Professor Heo Young-hee of Korea International University titled “Increasing Gender Sensitivity for a Happy Gyeongnam and the Creation of a Safe Society.”
Eleven residents of the province were honored with awards in recognition of their contributions to preventing violence against women and providing protection and support.
Illegal camera experience rooms and virtual reality (VR) experience zones were set up around the venue, and the winning works of the Gender Violence News Contest held from July to October were also exhibited.
In celebration of this week, Gyeongsangnam-do plans to implement ▲ capacity building for facility workers ▲ violence prevention education ▲ public service advertisements for stalking crime prevention and victim support ▲ promotion to eradicate sexual harassment and sexual violence in the workplace ▲ and four major violence prevention education programs in public institutions.
They also plan to promote policies that fundamentally prevent violence against women and protect and support victims.
Governor Park said, “The government and local governments have the responsibility to create measures to prevent violence against women,” adding, “We will take this commemorative ceremony as an opportunity to once again check whether various systems such as institutions and support are functioning properly.”
He continued, “I hope to improve awareness of violence against women and properly establish institutional culture so that all residents can enjoy a happy Gyeongnam.”
