Public Announcement of Commitment to Practicing ESG Management
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Yeju] KOTRA held the 'ESG Management Practice Declaration Ceremony' at its headquarters in Yeomgok-dong on the 28th.
Marking its 60th anniversary this year, KOTRA has been organizing various systems to promote ESG management and preparing timely support measures to help Korean export companies proactively respond to global ESG demands.
In particular, to prevent ESG from becoming a new trade barrier for small and medium-sized export companies that find it difficult to fully implement ESG management due to circumstances, KOTRA is responding company-wide centered on the 'Global ESG Information Utilization Support Center.' The Global ESG Information Utilization Support Center is an organization that oversees projects supporting small and medium-sized enterprises' global ESG response.
The center monitors global ESG trends through KOTRA's 128 overseas trade offices worldwide and disseminates timely information, while also operating a help desk to resolve individual companies' ESG management difficulties. Additionally, it actively provides on-site support such as due diligence assistance in response to the EU Supply Chain Due Diligence Act. Customized consulting and demand-based educational services are also offered to help companies build their own response capabilities.
This declaration ceremony was held jointly by the labor union, management, and auditors (labor-management-audit) to pledge collective efforts in promoting ESG management. The declaration includes a commitment to contribute to achieving carbon neutrality by accelerating eco-friendly management and green transition, leading global responsibility fulfillment, practicing compliance management, establishing transparent governance, and actively supporting Korean companies to respond proactively to global ESG.
Yoo Jung-yeol, President of KOTRA, stated, "In this era of global transformation, including the transition to a low-carbon green economy and supply chain restructuring, ESG is rapidly becoming an essential area for companies." He added, "KOTRA will further strengthen collaboration with domestic and international governments, related organizations, and the private sector to actively support our export companies in leveraging new business opportunities arising from ESG management."
