Gyeongnam police are dispatched to the Cargo Solidarity general strike site to prevent illegal activities.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Amid the ongoing general strike by the Cargo Solidarity Union, eggs were thrown at non-union vehicles in operation, prompting the police to pursue the suspect.
According to the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency on the 28th, at around 7 p.m. on the second day of the strike, the 25th, two eggs were thrown at a non-union cargo truck driving near Angol-daero in Jinhae-gu, Changwon City.
The police are considering applying charges of assault against a driver under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes to the suspect.
To prevent similar incidents, the police are directly escorting cargo trucks that are operating normally and not participating in the strike.
The provincial police agency announced that at around 1:50 a.m. that day, they escorted six non-union cargo trucks from the Hanjin Shipping gate exit in Jinhae-gu to a 3 km section in front of the Jinhae IC entrance at Sinhang Intersection.
Three traffic patrol cars mobilized from two police stations were positioned in front of and behind the cargo trucks to assist their operation.
On the 26th as well, two cargo trucks departing from Yongwon-dong, Jinhae-gu were escorted by police motorcycles and traffic patrol cars to Terminal 5 at Goryeo New Port in Seongbuk-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan.
A police official stated, “Illegal acts such as assault and obstruction of transportation occurring during assemblies will be dealt with strictly according to the law.”
