Gyeonggi-do Joint Inspection of Railway Construction Sites... Winter Safety Accident Prevention Gyeonggi Provincial Government Northern Office

[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] As winter approaches, bringing increased risks of safety accidents such as cold waves and fires, Gyeonggi Province has stepped up safety management at railway construction sites within the province.

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 28th that "from the 29th of this month to the 6th of next month, a 'Comprehensive Safety Management Inspection for Railway Construction Sites in Preparation for Winter' will be conducted at seven railway construction sites managed by the province."

The inspection targets seven railway construction sites within the province, including sections 3, 4, 5, and 6 of the Byeollae Line, and sections 1, 2, and 3 of the Dobongsan-Ogjeong Line, all directly under provincial construction.

To ensure thorough safety inspections, the province plans to operate a joint inspection team composed of labor supervisors, construction project management groups, and contractors.

The main inspection items include the safety status of temporary structures against heavy snowfall and cold waves, the use of temporary power during emergencies, vulnerability factors to safety accidents such as fire and suffocation, and measures to secure the quality of wet construction work like concrete during winter.

In particular, the joint inspection team plans to cross-check other sites to enhance the thoroughness of inspections. Minor issues will be corrected immediately, while matters requiring mid- to long-term review will require submission of a safety management plan, with continuous follow-up until completion of corrective actions.

The province also stated, "In addition to this inspection, we are implementing safety management measures at railway construction sites, such as deploying additional safety monitors beyond legally required safety managers, and having department heads verify daily inspection results in safety, health, and quality fields."

Gu Ja-gun, Director of the Railway Construction Division of the province, said, "While safety inspections at construction sites are important, continuous management to prevent accidents during normal times is also crucial," adding, "We will do our best in safety management to ensure that not a single accident occurs."
