Goodoc Supports Remote Medical Consultation and Medicine Delivery on Baengnyeongdo Island Without Pharmacies

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Goodoc has taken steps to resolve the medical gap by supporting non-face-to-face medical consultations and medicine delivery services on Baengnyeongdo, the northernmost island in the West Sea.

Since the closure of the only pharmacy on Baengnyeongdo on August 25, it has become difficult to obtain even basic over-the-counter medicines. Currently, Baengnyeongdo operates with only one hospital and a public health center as its sole medical institutions, but their operating hours are short, making medical gaps unavoidable during weekends and late-night hours. In particular, with the disappearance of the only pharmacy, limited general medicines can only be purchased through two convenience stores.

Goodoc plans to address the issue of medical accessibility on Baengnyeongdo by establishing a system for medicine delivery via courier alongside its non-face-to-face medical consultation service, as the number of general medicines sold at convenience stores is limited to 13 items and the supply volume is low, which may cause unstable supply for high-demand medicines such as headache pills.

The company expects that, with the expansion of Baengnyeongdo’s non-face-to-face medical service area, chronic patients will be able to keep medicines on hand, and the previously limited single medical infrastructure will be expanded to 24 hours without spatial or temporal restrictions, significantly improving the medical convenience for residents.

Im Jinseok, CEO of Goodoc, stated, “The expansion of non-face-to-face medical consultation and medicine delivery services to Baengnyeongdo, the northernmost area of South Korea without a pharmacy, provides psychological stability to residents and greatly improves medical accessibility in an environment where receiving medicine previously required at least an overnight stay. This holds great significance.” He added, “Beyond Baengnyeongdo, we will continue to thoughtfully consider the inherent value of Goodoc’s services in delivering medical access to people with low accessibility, such as the elderly, seniors, and persons with disabilities, aiming to resolve medical gaps throughout the country.”
