Annual Production of 30,000 Tons at Mipo National Industrial Complex on the 28th
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] The world’s first DPG (DiPropylene Glycol) single-process production plant will be completed in Ulsan.
DPG stands for DiPropylene Glycol.
On the 28th at 10 a.m., Ulsan City will hold a “World’s First DPG Single-Process Commercialization Success Ceremony” at the Ulsan plant located at 255 Yongjam-ro, Nam-gu, operated by SK PIC Global.
The event will be attended by key guests including Kim Doo-gyeom, Mayor of Ulsan; Lee Yoon-cheol, Chairman of the Ulsan Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Lee Kyung-ho, Director of the Materials, Parts, and Equipment Cooperation Bureau at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy; as well as SKC President Park Won-cheol, SK PIC Global CEO Won Ki-don, and about 100 company executives and related personnel.
SK PIC Global invested a total of 40 billion KRW on a 2,000㎡ site and began construction of the DPG production plant in January 2021.
PG (Propylene Glycol) is an eco-friendly high value-added material with moisturizing properties and the ability to retain fragrance, making it suitable for edible use and various applications.
In particular, DPG is considered the highest value-added product among the PG product group used as raw materials for perfumes and basic cosmetics, and the industry expects it to grow more than 1.5 times faster than the PG market.
However, until now, producing 1 ton of DPG required making 6 tons of PG products.
In response, SK PIC Global started commercializing the DPG single-process in 2017 through a joint venture with Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation, becoming the first in the global chemical industry to succeed in mass production.
With this completion, SK PIC Global will not only expand the supply of high-quality DPG products with an annual production capacity of 30,000 tons but also be able to respond more efficiently to future demand increases and expansions.
Kim Doo-gyeom, Mayor of Ulsan, said, “With the success of the DPG single-process, the eco-friendliness and high value-added nature of Ulsan’s petrochemical industry are expected to accelerate,” adding, “Ulsan City will spare no support for SK PIC Global to grow into a global company.”
SK PIC Global is a joint venture established by spinning off SKC’s chemical business division and partnering with PIC, the Kuwait National Petroleum Chemical Company.
