[Asia Economy Reporter Kum Bo-ryeong] The People Power Party criticized the Cargo Solidarity's general strike as a 'license for collective violence.'
Jang Dong-hyuk, the floor spokesperson for the People Power Party, stated in a commentary on the 27th, "The Cargo Solidarity's 'license for collective violence' can no longer be tolerated."
Spokesperson Jang said, "As the Cargo Solidarity's general strike enters its fourth day, the damage to industrial sites is snowballing. The cargo volume at 12 ports nationwide has dropped to less than 20% of usual levels, and starting next week, a logistics crisis is expected to intensify. With the domestic economy already struggling, if logistics, which act as the main artery, come to a halt, our economy will rapidly freeze," he explained.
He continued, "The illegal strike leaders who are holding the national economy hostage are a small hardline faction within the Cargo Solidarity. More than 70% of all union members firmly reject the reckless strike that ignores the public. However, the violent strike forces have not hesitated to shoot steel balls at cargo vehicles not participating in the strike. The police have even had to escort vehicles operating normally," he pointed out.
Spokesperson Jang also said, "The government must respond firmly according to law and principles to the Cargo Solidarity's violent illegal strike," adding, "It must be clearly shown that their 'license for collective violence' will no longer work under the Yoon Seok-yeol administration."
He further emphasized, "If the Cargo Solidarity continues the illegal general strike prioritizing the collective interests of a very small group, there should be no hesitation in taking extraordinary measures such as work commencement orders for the sake of our economy and citizens. In particular, if the Cargo Solidarity acts arrogantly believing in laws that tolerate violent assemblies like the Yellow Envelope Act, such legislation will never be accepted by the public," he stressed.
