[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] On the second day of the general strike by the Cargo Solidarity of the Korean Public Service and Transport Workers' Union under the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, the cement industry reported a sales loss of approximately 18 billion KRW on the 25th.
According to the Korea Cement Association, due to the transportation refusal by the Cargo Solidarity, cement shipments have almost completely stopped at major cement plants located in Donghae and Yeongwol in Gangwon Province, Jecheon and Danyang in Chungbuk Province, and key shipment bases in the Seoul metropolitan area. However, about 20,000 tons were shipped from some southern region shipment bases, which is approximately 10,000 tons more than the previous day.
A representative from the Cement Association stated, "Out of the planned daily shipment volume of 200,000 tons during the peak season, 180,000 tons were not shipped. The damage amount is estimated to be about 18 billion KRW."
