Food Service Industry Launches New Products Targeting '1-Person Households' Ahead of the World Cup

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] The dining-out franchise industry is focusing on targeting single-person households known as ‘jipgwanjok’ who watch games at home, by consecutively launching new products reminiscent of the World Cup.


According to the industry on the 27th, Domino’s Pizza recently launched three types of street pizzas. The new menu includes ▲‘Taiwan Corn Cheese Potato Pizza,’ recreating the famous ‘Prince Cheese Potato’ from Taiwan night markets as a pizza ▲‘Turkey Chicken Kebab Pizza,’ representing Turkey’s iconic dish kebab in pizza form ▲‘Italian Margherita Pizza,’ boasting the rich flavor of cheese and the fragrant aroma of basil. The key feature is the use of famous street foods from around the world as toppings.


The new menu was released as a limited 3-month sale to support customers struggling with continuous price increases. Priced affordably at 6,900 KRW for a single-person pizza and 17,900 KRW for an L size, it is perfect as a late-night snack for single-person households watching the World Cup alone.


KFC is offering the ‘Chimaek Victory Combo’ and ‘Beomak Victory Combo’ as limited-time sales until the 20th of next month. The Chimaek Victory Combo consists of 8 pieces of boneless chicken tender snacks made from chicken tenderloin, fried chicken skin, vegetable salad coleslaw, and 2 beers. The Beomak Victory Combo includes a Scorcher Burger Plus, 2 pieces of tenders, sweet chili sauce, and 1 beer. As a pack menu composed of chicken, burgers, and beer ideal for cheering on soccer at home, it is expected to attract great interest from single-person households.


Genesis BBQ launched the new product ‘Jamaica Sotteokmanna Chicken’ on the 7th. Released ahead of this year’s World Cup, when chicken consumption is expected to increase, the new product features BBQ’s signature Golden Olive chicken flavored with Jamaican jerk sauce. Jamaican jerk sauce is a marinade used on meat in the Caribbean and Central and South America. BBQ incorporated traditional jerk sauce ingredients such as coriander, nutmeg, cumin, clove, pepper, and honey, adding Cheongyang chili peppers to create a sharp and spicy taste.


McDonald’s, the official sponsor of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, commemorated the World Cup by introducing two new menu items called the ‘Pepperoni Pizza Burger,’ shaped like a soccer ball. The two new items are the ‘Pepperoni Pizza Burger’ and the ‘Pepperoni Mega Pizza Burger,’ both using soccer ball-shaped soccer buns (burger buns). The Pepperoni Mega Pizza Burger, true to its name, contains a total of four pure beef patties, allowing customers to enjoy a rich meat flavor and deep taste.
