The event commemorated the creation of a green space in front of the Mapo-gu Council, with the Mapo-gu Mayor and the Chairperson of the Mapo-gu Council each planting their commemorative tree. The species of the commemorative tree is the Korean arborvitae, an evergreen tree native only to Korea.
Mayor Park Kang-soo of Mapo-gu said, “Please join your hearts as you pass by so that the saplings planted today can grow into healthy trees with lush green leaves,” and added, “Likewise, I hope Mapo-gu and the Mapo-gu Council unite their hearts and seek a path of coexistence for the common goal of residents’ happiness and regional development.”
