[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] A heartbreaking story has emerged about a female paramedic in Canada who rescued a seriously injured teenager at a traffic accident scene, only to find out that the girl was her own daughter, who ultimately passed away.
According to a report by the UK Guardian on the 23rd (local time), this tragic incident occurred on the 15th on a highway in Alberta, Canada. When paramedic Jamie Erickson arrived at the collision site, he realized the girl’s condition was very severe. Due to the serious injuries, Erickson did not recognize that the injured person was his daughter. After nearly 30 minutes of giving his all, Erickson was able to extract the girl from the vehicle and transport her to a nearby hospital in Calgary. When he finished his shift and returned home, a police officer delivered the heartbreaking news that his daughter Montana (17) had been in the accident.
At the time of the accident, Montana and another teenage girl were returning from walking a dog. The highway surface was frozen, causing the car Montana was in to lose control and collide with an oncoming truck. The driver was able to get out of the car, but Montana, who was a passenger, became trapped inside. The greater tragedy was that Montana passed away after several days of fighting for her life.
Montana, a promising swimmer who dreamed of attending law school, left a 'final gift' to those in need. She donated her organs, saving two lives. Her mother Erickson shared the proud story of her daughter with the world through her Facebook page. She wrote, “With a heavy heart and unimaginable deep sorrow, I write to inform friends and family of the sudden and terrible death of my daughter Montana. The pain I feel is unlike anything I have ever experienced and is beyond words. As a paramedic, the worst nightmare has become reality.”
She described her daughter as “my flesh and blood. My only child. My mini-me. My daughter, Montana.” Despite the difficult situation, Erickson said, “I am so happy that our daughter is living on through others and that this tragedy has saved others. We know she would have wanted it this way, and I am so proud of her and will miss her very much.” Finally, Erickson urged those reading her message, “Love with all your heart. Hold close those who are near. Make memories. To love someone, endure as long and as strongly as you can... until you can’t anymore.”
