Jeongeup-si, Fully Prepared for Major Winter Disasters Such as Cold Waves and Fires

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jae-gil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk Province has strengthened cooperation among related agencies to protect citizens' lives and property in preparation for major disasters that frequently occur during winter.

The city announced on the 23rd that on the 22nd, it held a meeting with heads of various agencies to proactively manage winter natural disasters (cold waves, heavy snow), traffic accidents, large fires, and to enhance inter-agency cooperation systems.

The meeting was attended by Mayor Lee Hak-su, Vice Mayor Choi Jae-yong, Jeongeup City Council Chairman Ko Kyung-yoon, Jeongeup Police Chief, Jeongeup Fire Chief, and other disaster response officials from each agency.

During the meeting, participants pointed out issues in past responses to major disasters in Jeongeup City, communicated ways to strengthen on-site collaboration functions, and discussed the progress of related agencies (departments).

They also inspected road snow removal and safety measures for habitual icy sections in preparation for heavy snow and cold waves, as well as the stockpiling and deployment status of snow removal materials, and discussed comprehensive measures to prepare for natural disasters such as multi-vehicle pile-up accidents caused by heavy snow and management of agricultural facilities.

In particular, they pledged to establish a real-time situation sharing system using the disaster safety communication network and to familiarize themselves with each agency's duties and roles to minimize damage to citizens' lives and property.

Mayor Lee Hak-su said, "Due to recent events such as the October 29 Itaewon tragedy and abnormal climate, establishing disaster safety measures and an information sharing system for rapid initial response has become very important," adding, "We ask for the keen interest and cooperation of agency heads so that a swift work cooperation system can be established through this meeting."
