[Asia Economy Reporter Noh Kyung-jo] Samsung C&T Construction Division is expanding its influence in the remodeling market.

Samsung C&T announced on the 23rd that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for joint research and development of new remodeling technologies with Ajou University at its headquarters in Sangil-dong the day before.

The signing ceremony was attended by Young-woo Choi, Vice President of Samsung C&T, and Kyung-rae Kim, Vice President of Ajou University. Both parties agreed to cooperate in developing new technologies related to residential remodeling and in developing structural and design engineering programs.

Remodeling requires consideration of the structural stability and constructability of existing buildings from the design stage. Research to minimize the byproducts generated during the frame demolition process is also necessary.

Accordingly, Samsung C&T and Ajou University plan to secure design capabilities that can overcome the structural limitations of remodeling, and to promote research on enhancing structural stability and minimizing frame demolition volume. The developed technologies will be applied to remodeling projects constructed by Samsung C&T.

Samsung C&T has secured completion records and construction technologies for four residential remodeling projects. Representative projects include Raemian Cheongdam Royview and Raemian Daechi Highstern in Gangnam-gu. In the future, remodeling works for Kumho Byeoksan in Seongdong-gu, Godeok Anam in Gangdong-gu, and Ichon Kolon in Yongsan-gu are also planned.

Ajou University has carried out numerous national projects related to remodeling. The Ajou University Remodeling Research Group possesses 26 related technologies, including remodeling design technologies, structural safety assurance technologies, and low-cost, high-efficiency remodeling business models.

Vice President Choi Young-woo said, "With the increase of aging apartments in Korea, the remodeling market is expected to grow," adding, "We will lead the market through differentiated remodeling technological competitiveness that ensures safety."
