[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] ‘Yeonmo’ became the first Korean drama to win an International Emmy Award. On the 21st (local time) at 8 p.m., at the 50th International Emmy Awards ceremony held in New York, USA, it was announced as the winner in the Telenovela category, beating candidates from China, Spain, and Brazil. The International Emmy Awards recognize television works from countries outside the United States.
‘Yeonmo,’ which ended last December, is a secret palace drama about a child born as twins who was abandoned simply because she was a girl, and who becomes the crown prince through disguising as a man after the death of her older brother, the third son. The drama stars actress Park Eun-bin and SF9 group member Rowoon (Kim Seok-woo). It recorded a domestic peak viewership rating of 12.1% and gained popularity by ranking first in 12 countries on the online streaming service (OTT) Netflix.
Kim Hansang and Ahn Changhyun, representatives of the production company Acmedia, expressed their feelings, saying, "Not only did this prove the potential of Korean dramas, but we are also proud that the charm of Korean historical dramas has been recognized worldwide."
