Egypt to Build World's Largest Onshore Wind Farm with 15 Trillion Won Investment

[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] Bloomberg reported on the 20th (local time) that Egypt plans to invest $11 billion (approximately 14.8918 trillion KRW) to create the world's largest onshore wind power complex.

Egypt's largest renewable energy company Infinity Power, Hassan Allam Utilities, and Abu Dhabi's largest renewable energy company Masdar have formed a consortium to develop a 10-gigawatt (GW) onshore wind power complex by 2030.

Mohamed Mansour, chairman of Infinity Power, stated that the Egyptian government will purchase the generated electricity and that there are plans to export power to Europe, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and Libya.

Chairman Mansour expects to secure land for the wind power complex this year, mentioning areas near Aswan and Minya in Egypt's western desert region. He added that wind speeds in these two areas reach up to 10 meters per second.

Construction of the wind power complex is expected to begin in 2024.

Chairman Mansour also said that Infinity, Hassan Allam, and Masdar are collaborating in the green hydrogen energy sector and that they can produce 480,000 tons of green hydrogen annually by 2030.
