KCC Conducts '2022 Disaster Response Safe Korea Drill'

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] On the 21st, the Korea Communications Commission announced that it conducted the "2022 Disaster Response Safe Korea Drill," a comprehensive inspection of the disaster response system in the broadcasting sector to prepare for large-scale disasters such as typhoons or earthquakes, together with related organizations including MBC and Mapo Fire Station located in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu. This drill was held for the first time in three years since it was suspended due to COVID-19.

This on-site drill simulated a crisis situation where a large-scale flood and power outage occurred in the MBC building due to a typhoon, and a fire broke out while operating the emergency generator, potentially leading to a nationwide broadcast interruption. The drill focused on rapid restoration of broadcasting functions and fire evacuation training in case of a broadcasting disaster. Additionally, to prepare for situations where restoring broadcasting facilities independently is impossible, an emergency transmission drill was conducted using relay vehicles from other nearby broadcasters such as YTN, thereby checking the joint response system among broadcasters. Notably, a citizen experience group participated in the actual drill process and evaluation, aiming to conduct disaster response training tailored to the general public’s perspective.
