KT Moves Genie TV Channel Platform to KT Group Media Center

Image Quality 15%↑, Video Latency 35%↓

A KT Group Media Center official is monitoring the channel service status.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] KT announced on the 21st that it recently relocated approximately 360 Internet TV (IPTV) channels, about 320 KT Skylife satellite broadcast channels, and 21 transmission agency service channels from the Mokdong Media Center to the 'KT Group Media Center,' a facility with a total area of around 5,000 pyeong located near Baekseok Station in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do.

The KT Group Media Center was developed through collaboration among various departments within the KT Group, handling everything from the construction of the Baekseok office building to the establishment of power and communication facilities and the broadcasting platform infrastructure. While the Mokdong Center required encoding twice, the Baekseok Center reduced this to a single encoding process and improved the platform structure of the transmission section, integrating it into an IP-based channel platform.

As a result, the company explained that Genie TV's picture quality improved by 15% compared to before, and video delay time was reduced by up to 35%. Kim Hoon-bae, Executive Vice President and Head of KT Media Platform Business Division, stated, "At the Baekseok KT Group Media Center, we can now provide stable and higher-quality channel services to approximately 12 million KT Group media customers." He added, "Going forward, it is expected to serve as the core forward base and growth hub of the KT Group media value chain, becoming the nation's top media center."
