COVID-19 New Cases 46,011... Severe Cases Highest in 2 Months (Summary)

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] The number of new COVID-19 cases has increased to the 40,000 range, showing signs of slowing down. However, the number of critically ill patients has sharply increased, reaching the highest in two months.


The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced on the 20th at midnight that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases increased by 40,611, bringing the total to 26,558,765.


The number of new confirmed cases decreased by 4,578 compared to the previous day (50,589) and by 2,431 compared to a week ago on the 13th (48,442).


This marks the third consecutive day that the number of new confirmed cases has decreased compared to a week ago. On the 18th and 19th, the number of new confirmed cases decreased by 5,101 and 3,739 respectively compared to the previous week.


Compared to two weeks ago on the 6th (36,665), the number of new confirmed cases on this day is 9,346 higher.


From the 14th to this day, the daily new confirmed cases over one week were 23,751 → 72,866 → 66,569 → 55,424 → 49,418 → 50,589 → 40,611, averaging 52,090 per day.


Among the new confirmed cases on this day, 57 were imported cases, 7 more than the previous day (50). Domestic regional infections accounted for 45,954 cases.


The number of confirmed cases by region (including imported cases) is as follows: Gyeonggi 12,388, Seoul 8,804, Incheon 2,792, Busan 2,623, Gyeongnam 2,486, Gyeongbuk 2,439, Chungnam 1,955, Daegu 1,771, Jeonbuk 1,699, Chungbuk 1,604, Gwangju 1,475, Daejeon 1,443, Gangwon 1,350, Jeonnam 1,277, Ulsan 1,077, Sejong 432, Jeju 354, Quarantine 42.


Although the number of new confirmed cases is decreasing, the number of critically ill patients and deaths remains high.


The number of critically ill patients increased by 32 from the previous day (419) to 451, the highest in two months since the 21st of last month (494). The daily average number of critically ill patients over the past week since the 14th is 407, which is 50 more than the previous week's 357.


The cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths surpassed 30,000, reaching 30,031 on this day.


The number of deaths due to COVID-19 on the previous day was 41, which is 24 fewer than the previous day (65). After recording 60 deaths for three consecutive days, the number dropped to the 40s.
