[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] As the 7th wave of COVID-19 continues, a little over 50,000 new cases were reported on the 19th.


The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight on that day, 50,589 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed, bringing the total to 26,512,754.


The number of new cases was 1,171 more than the previous day (49,418), but 3,739 fewer than a week ago on the 12th (54,328).


The number of cases has decreased for two consecutive days compared to a week ago (5,101 fewer cases the previous day), indicating a slowdown in the spread. In the previous week, the number of cases had increased by around 10,000 compared to the week before.


Compared to two weeks ago on the 5th (40,895), the number of new cases on this day was 9,694 higher.


From the 13th to this day, the daily new cases for one week were 48,465 → 23,765 → 72,883 → 66,587 → 55,437 → 49,418 → 50,589, averaging 52,449 cases per day.


Among the new cases on this day, 50 were imported cases, 16 fewer than the previous day (66). Domestic community transmission cases numbered 50,539.


By region (including imported cases), the number of cases were: Gyeonggi 14,345, Seoul 10,124, Incheon 2,880, Busan 2,787, Gyeongnam 2,632, Gyeongbuk 2,449, Daegu 2,258, Chungnam 2,181, Gangwon 1,688, Jeonbuk 1,685, Chungbuk 1,638, Daejeon 1,628, Gwangju 1,360, Jeonnam 1,241, Ulsan 938, Sejong 392, Jeju 340, Quarantine 23.


The number of critically ill patients increased by 54 from the previous day (365) to 419, the highest level in 54 days since September 26 (427). For the past 15 days since the 4th, the number has not fallen below 300. The cumulative death toll reached 29,990, nearing 30,000.
