[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida have started a summit meeting in Bangkok, Thailand, Kyodo News reported on the 17th.
The China-Japan summit is the first in about three years since President Xi met former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Beijing, China, in December 2019, and it is the first meeting between President Xi and Prime Minister Kishida. President Xi and Prime Minister Kishida are expected to discuss regional issues such as the Taiwan Strait and North Korea, and seek cooperation measures to address the global issue of the climate crisis.
China and Japan marked the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations this year, but have experienced conflicts due to disputes over the Senkaku Islands (Chinese name Diaoyu Dao) and rapid changes in the Taiwan situation.
