[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa Cultural Foundation will present the musical play ’Jjillekkot‘, which the whole family can enjoy, twice on the 20th at 3 PM and 7 PM for free at the Songpa-gu Community Center Auditorium.
The musical play ’Jjillekkot‘ is a work by the ’Korean Musical Play Preservation Society‘, which continues the tradition of musical plays. Featuring national actors Jeon Wonju, Choi Joobong, and Hwang Beomsik, it has been reborn as a purely Korean-style musical combining traditional musical play with modern direction, featuring splendid dance, singing, and acting.
’Jjillekkot‘ is adapted from the play ’That Woman’s Novel‘ by playwright Eom Inhee. It depicts the life of a woman who lived through the turbulent modern history from liberation, the Korean War, to the Miracle on the Han River. It shows sacrifice and love for family, offering a warm stage that all generations can empathize with.
This performance, which will be a filial experience for parents and a historical experience for children, is available by advance reservation. Detailed information can be found on the official website of the Songpa Cultural Foundation.

Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Ilhyung Lee) Hwikyung Happiness Library will hold a meeting with author Shin Minjae, the author of the picture book ’Welcome, Dalpyeong-ssi,‘ for 1st to 3rd-grade elementary students at 4 PM on the 28th.
Hwikyung Happiness Library exhibits original picture book illustrations on the first floor children’s reading room to help local residents and child users become familiar with picture books. In November, original illustrations of the picture book ’Welcome, Dalpyeong-ssi‘ will be exhibited, and children will have the opportunity to meet and communicate directly with author Shin Minjae.
Author Shin Minjae recently published ’Run Away, Dalpyeong-ssi‘ following ’Welcome, Dalpyeong-ssi.‘ The exhibited book ’Welcome, Dalpyeong-ssi‘ vividly portrays family difficulties caused by household chores through text and illustrations. Centered on the problem solver ’Dalpyeong-ssi,‘ the story conveys a moral message that family members should live by caring for and helping each other.
During the meeting with Shin Minjae, participants will read the picture book ’Welcome, Dalpyeong-ssi‘ together with the author, share stories about the birth of Dalpyeong-ssi and the family stories in the book, and think about their own families, engaging in book play that allows communication between the author and elementary students.
Additionally, the author will introduce the process of creating a picture book, providing a valuable opportunity for 1st to 3rd-grade elementary students to learn about the profession of a picture book author.
Applications for the meeting with Shin Minjae can be made on the Dongdaemun-gu Public Library Hwikyung Happiness Library website, with 12 participants accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. For more details, inquiries can be made by phone to Hwikyung Happiness Library.
A representative of Hwikyung Happiness Library said, “We aim to help child users get closer to books and develop interest in reading by holding picture book illustration exhibitions and meetings with authors together. We will continue to operate various programs that can inspire residents’ enthusiasm for reading so that all age groups, including children, can enjoy the pleasure of reading in daily life.”
