This year’s Gyeongnam Sustainable Development University was hosted by Gyeongsang National University, co-organized by the Gyeongsang National University Sustainable Development Center and the Gyeongnam Sustainable Development Council, and sponsored by Gyeongnam Province. It was held over four weeks from October 17, operating every Monday and Wednesday evening.

The Sustainable Development University is a program designed to train current instructors engaged in lifelong education and civic education as SDGs experts (instructors), aiming to expand the base of sustainable development education.

At the presentation and completion ceremony held on the 12th, lifelong learning instructors presented ‘Lifelong Learning Lecture Plans for the Sustainable Development Goals,’ providing an opportunity to share teaching methods and educational content for sustainable development education. This is expected to serve as foundational material for future implementation and education of the Sustainable Development Goals targeting local residents.

The event was divided into Part 1, the presentation, and Part 2, the completion ceremony. During the presentation, each presenter shared their lecture plan for about five minutes.

The presentations were evaluated by Professor Shin Seung-gu and Professor Lee Tae-hwi of Gyeongsang National University, Choi Young, Director of the Warm Economy Support Center, Park Young-sun, Chairperson of the Gyeongnam Sustainable Development Council, and Park Chan, Secretary General of the Gyeongnam Sustainable Development Council.

The Part 2 completion ceremony began with congratulatory remarks from Professor Shin Seung-gu, Head of the Industry-Academic Cooperation Division and Professor of the Department of Energy Engineering at Gyeongsang National University.

The nine graduates received certificates of completion issued in the name of the President of Gyeongsang National University. The Outstanding Participant Award was given to Kim Seong-ae, who conducts adult literacy education in Sancheong County, and Son Su-jeong (doctoral candidate at Gyeongsang National University), a leadership speech instructor.

A representative from the Gyeongsang National University Sustainable Development Center stated, “The Gyeongnam Sustainable Development University not only promotes lifelong education within quality education, which is Goal 4 of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), but also provides sustainable development education to experts in various fields. We expect it to grow into an educational program that leads university and community challenges in the future.” They added, “Gyeongsang National University, a national flagship public university representing Gyeongnam in South Korea, will also contribute to nurturing experts who lead regional innovation and sustainable development.”
