"Yoon-Xi Jinping Summit, Results Unachieved by Moon Administration"
"Indo-Pacific Strategy Announcement Shows Confidence"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Hyun-ji] Tae Young-ho, a member of the ruling party and the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee of the National Assembly, evaluated the first Korea-China summit between President Yoon Seok-yeol and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the 17th, saying, "The diplomatic space with China has expanded, and the playing field for fierce diplomatic competition has regained balance."
In a statement on the same day, Rep. Tae said, "(President Yoon) declared the universal human value of 'freedom,' which former President Moon Jae-in did not even dare to mention, despite the time constraint of 25 minutes." He especially praised President Yoon by referring to the Indo-Pacific strategy announced at the recent Korea-ASEAN summit, saying, "If he had been desperate to hold the summit with China, he would not have shown the confidence to publicly reveal a diplomatic strategy aligned with the U.S.-led China containment strategy."
He continued, "President Yoon clearly stated Korea's geopolitical position amid U.S.-China conflicts, while proposing close communication between the two countries to respond to global threats such as the pandemic, economic recession, and climate change, and urged China to take a more active and constructive role in the North Korean nuclear issue," adding, "It was proper diplomacy in that the two leaders clearly exchanged their core claims."
Targeting the Moon Jae-in administration, he pointed out, "Although former President Moon was invited to Beijing as a state guest during his first meeting with President Xi, the summit took place only after more than 30 hours of arrival in Beijing, and Korean reporters had to endure the humiliation of being collectively assaulted by Chinese security guards." He then emphasized the results of this summit, saying, "Such achievements could never have been made under the submissive circumstances of the previous administration."
