[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province held a joint forum commemorating Child Abuse Prevention Day on the 17th.
On this day, Gyeonggi Province announced that it organized the "Joint Forum Commemorating Child Abuse Prevention Day" in collaboration with the Gyeonggi Provincial Child Protection Agency at the Next-Generation Convergence Technology Institute in Gwanggyo Techno Valley, Yeongtong, Suwon.
The forum, held ahead of Child Abuse Prevention Day (November 19), was themed "The Present and Future of Child Abuse Case Management" and was attended by about 100 child abuse officials and related agency personnel from across the province.
Earlier in January, the province reorganized the functions of the existing Gyeonggi Provincial Child Protection Agency and opened the "Gyeonggi Provincial Child Protection Hub Agency" in Jangan-gu, Suwon City. This agency serves not only as a hub for 22 city and county child protection agencies but also as a metropolitan-level management headquarters to enhance public-private expertise in responding to child abuse.
The forum was planned to explore future changes in the response system by jointly considering the roles and functions of child protection agencies, including the Gyeonggi Provincial Child Protection Agency, and to develop improvement measures for the child abuse response system that reflect the vivid voices from the field.
Min-kyung Jeon, a research fellow at the Gyeonggi Women's Family Foundation, who presented at the forum, suggested changes in work and the role of child protection agencies following the reorganization of the response system under the theme "Gyeonggi Province's Public-Type Child Abuse Response: Time of Change and Future Tasks."
The second presenter, Min-ae Kim, director of the Gyeonggi Provincial Child Protection Hub Agency, explained the role of the hub agency in the transition of the child protection system under the theme "Current Support Status and Future Role of the Gyeonggi Provincial Child Protection Hub Agency."
In the comprehensive discussion session, Professor Hyun-yong Park of the Department of Social Welfare at Sungshin Women's University served as the chair, with participants including Team Leader Ju-yeon Moon (Siheung City Hall), Director Seung-ji Lee (Northern Gyeonggi Child Protection Agency), Dr. Sun-ok Son (Sungshin Women's University Research and Industry Cooperation Group), and Section Chief So-jeong Yoo (Gyeonggi Province Child Care Division).
So-jeong Yoo, head of the Child Care Division of Gyeonggi Province, emphasized, "We will strive not only to protect abused children through expanding infrastructure related to child abuse response and strengthening cooperation among related agencies within the response system but also to promote healing for the affected children and recovery for their families."
Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province has been promoting measures to strengthen child abuse response, including ▲ strengthening the public nature of child abuse investigations and establishing a response system ▲ expanding infrastructure for protecting abused children ▲ enhancing the expertise of personnel responding to abused children ▲ improving social awareness and prevention related to child abuse.
