Topcomedia Accelerates Push into Japanese Webtoon Market... Plans to Expand Distribution Channels Beyond FunGuild and Solmare

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Topcomedia announced on the 17th that it acquired the Japanese webtoon content distribution division from Topco in April this year, ending three consecutive years of losses and achieving a successful turnaround to profitability.

The company stated that it achieved sales of 7.2 billion KRW and a net profit of 2.95 billion KRW in the third quarter of this year, and explained that a stable profit trend is expected to continue.

Topcomedia has been distributing Topco's popular works in the Japanese webtoon market by signing content partnership agreements with well-known content distribution companies in Japan, such as FunGuild and Solmare.

CEO Yoo Jungseok said, “I personally feel that the popularity of our works has become even hotter than last year in the local market.” He added, “This is proven by the upward trend in Topcomedia’s content sales performance.”

He also stated, “With a flood of content distribution love calls from local Japanese companies including DMM, competition among distribution channels is heating up, and profitability is expected to increase further.”

CEO Yoo added, “Topcomedia plans to continue increasing direct service sales not only by expanding content distribution but also by operating the platform of the local Japanese corporation.”

Meanwhile, starting from the third quarter, Topcomedia has added a studio business and is accelerating the production of high-quality content by increasing the production of webtoon IPs based on original novels.
