Prosecutors Conduct Additional Search of Korea Communications Commission Over Alleged Manipulation of General Programming Channel Reapproval

Additional Search and Seizure After Two Months

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The prosecution is conducting a raid on the Korea Communications Commission on the 17th in connection with allegations of 'score manipulation' during TV Chosun's re-approval review in 2020.

According to the legal community, the Criminal Division 5 of the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Park Kyungseop) sent investigators to the KCC building in Gwacheon-si, Gyeonggi Province, to secure related evidence.

This is an additional raid following the forced investigation that began after the prosecution, having received the case from the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, raided the KCC on September 23.

Earlier, the Board of Audit and Inspection secured statements suggesting that some reviewers intentionally gave TV Chosun low scores during the 2020 comprehensive programming re-approval review process and handed over related materials to the prosecution. Subsequently, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office transferred the case to the Northern District Prosecutors' Office to proceed with the investigation.
