'Leak of Itaewon Disaster Victim List' Accusation Case Assigned to Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office On the 17th, the case in which a civic group filed a complaint against a public official who leaked the list of victims of the Itaewon disaster for violating the official secrets act was assigned to the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office.

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] A civic group has filed a complaint against a public official who leaked the list of victims of the Itaewon disaster for violating the official secrets disclosure law, and the case has been assigned to the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office.

On the 17th, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office announced that the case was transferred from the Supreme Prosecutors' Office to the Criminal Division 1 (Chief Prosecutor Kim Sanghyun) of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office. A prosecution official stated, "We are currently reviewing the complaint."

On the 14th, the citizen media outlets Mindeulle and The Tam-sa disclosed the real names of 155 victims of the Itaewon disaster without the consent of their bereaved families. Subsequently, the civic group Judicial Exam Preparation Students Association (Sajunmo) claimed, "The list disclosed by the citizen media outlets should be regarded as leaked by a public official," and added, "The act of providing personal information of disaster victims, which has not yet been made public, to citizen media outlets constitutes an act of disclosing official secrets." Sajunmo then submitted a complaint to the Supreme Prosecutors' Office on the 15th, demanding punishment for the public official who leaked the list.
