[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jung-wan] On the morning of November 17, when the 2023 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) was held, some examinees were able to take the exam safely with the help of police officers and firefighters.

By 8:30 a.m. that day, the Gwangju Police Agency Situation Room had received a total of six transport requests. Five of these were reports requesting transport due to examinees confusing the test site or oversleeping, and the remaining one was a request to check because a child living far away had to take the CSAT but their phone was turned off.

The Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency implemented special traffic management measures for the 2023 CSAT, deploying 542 personnel including traffic police and mobilizing 85 vehicles such as patrol cars and motorcycles, resulting in providing convenience by transporting examinees to the test site 10 times in police vehicles.

At around 8:05 a.m. that day, near Seoknam High School in Seo-gu, Incheon, a taxi driver carrying an examinee urgently requested help from a police officer managing traffic on a motorcycle.

The taxi driver said that although there were about five minutes left before the exam entry deadline, due to traffic congestion there was concern the student would be late, so he urgently rolled down the window and told the officer that there was an examinee needing help. The police then transported the examinee for a 2.7 km distance to the test site, Sinhyeon High School, helping them arrive on time.

Meanwhile, there was also an incident where an examinee heading to the test site was involved in a traffic accident and arrived at the test site after receiving treatment.

According to the Suncheon Police Station in Jeollanam-do, at around 7:25 a.m. that day, examinee A (18) was hit by a passenger car driven by a man in his 60s, B, while crossing the road in front of a high school CSAT test site in Jorye-dong, Suncheon City.

The fire department transported A to the nearby Suncheon Medical Center, and A, who injured his ankle in the accident, received hospital treatment. After treatment, A expressed the intention to take the exam and is currently reported to have entered the test site before the allowed time and is taking the exam.

The vehicle driver B was identified as a parent of a student taking the CSAT. The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.

Entry to the CSAT test site must be completed by 8:10 a.m. If entry is delayed due to an accident, measures are taken to allow the examinee to take the exam in an ambulance or a separate test room within the test site with the consent of the examinee and their parents.
