Nowon Train Village, newly established in Hwarangdae Railroad Park, a representative attraction of Nowon, is a miniature exhibition hall. Visitors can see about 50 dioramas (scaled models) reproducing the natural scenery and tourist spots of Switzerland, along with 17 model trains.
The event was held with about 100 participants including Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, members of the National Assembly, city and district council members, guests, and residents. The program proceeded in the order of opening declaration and national ceremony, introduction of guests, progress report, presentation of appreciation plaques, greetings, unveiling and commemorative photo session, and train village touring.
Nowon Train Village is scheduled to officially open from the 18th. Operating hours are weekdays (closed on Mondays) and weekends from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (last admission at 6 p.m.), excluding Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, said, “Trains are a medium that connects generations, bringing dreams and hopes to children and memories to adults. I hope that Nowon Train Village, which was completed with great effort over a long time, will provide special enjoyment and experiences to residents and visitors.”
On the morning of the 17th, Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, took part in guiding the CSAT test sites and supporting the transportation of examinees near Mullae Station.
To ensure smooth test progress, the district operated a traffic countermeasure situation room and mobilized a total of 47 vehicles and 122 personnel, including administrative and volunteer vehicles, to assist examinees' mobility.
Volunteers participating in the CSAT support activities included employees from related departments, members of various neighborhood functional organizations, and the Yeongdeungpo branch of the Seoul Automobile Professional Maintenance Business Association.
Mayor Choi Ho-kwon expressed his support for the examinees taking the 2023 College Scholastic Ability Test, saying, “I hope they can demonstrate the skills they have built up and achieve good results. Yeongdeungpo District will cheer on the shining dreams of the examinees.”
Dongdaemun District (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) conducted the ‘2022 Prevention Education on the Four Major Types of Violence (sexual harassment, prostitution, sexual violence, domestic violence)’ for senior officials at grade 5 or above on the morning of the 17th at the 5th-floor Planning Situation Room of the district office to foster a healthy organizational culture.
The ‘2022 Prevention Education on the Four Major Types of Violence’ held on the 17th is customized training for senior officials to prevent sexual harassment and sexual violence in public institutions and establish a management system.
The education was attended by Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun District, and senior officials at grade 5 or above, and was conducted safely with strict adherence to quarantine rules due to the resurgence of COVID-19.
Following last year, Director Yeom Geon-ryeong of the Korea Institute of Criminology served as the lecturer. Director Yeom emphasized the importance of senior officials' roles in preventing the four major types of violence and conducted the lecture focusing on common cases of sexual harassment and sexual violence encountered in daily life to enhance understanding.
After completing the training, Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun District, stated, “As Dongdaemun District is certified as a women-friendly city, we must take the lead in creating a gender-equal organizational culture. I hope this education will help form a healthier organizational culture based on mutual respect and consideration.”
Lee Soo-hee, Mayor of Gangdong District, held the ‘2022 Gangdong District Child Abuse Prevention Day Ceremony’ on the 16th, inviting 120 childcare facility directors and residents in the area to mark Child Abuse Prevention Day (annually on November 19).
In the first part, the ‘Ceremony,’ seven residents and public officials who contributed to child abuse prevention activities and actively protecting children at risk were awarded certificates of commendation. All attendees also pledged to practice positive parenting together and joined the government-wide campaign by shouting the slogan “Let’s practice positive parenting together,” reaffirming their commitment to eradicating child abuse.
The second part, the ‘Commemorative Lecture,’ was conducted by Dr. Hong Gi-mook for childcare facility directors in the district. The lecture, titled ‘Respect for Children’s Rights and Abuse Prevention for Early Childhood Teachers,’ provided useful content that addressed the questions childcare facility directors have in their fieldwork, receiving great responses from participants.
Gangdong District has been implementing various projects to prevent child abuse. It has installed and operated reporting boxes at nine elementary schools to enable quick and easy reporting when child abuse is suspected. Additionally, through public-private cooperation, it has started support projects for families in parenting crises, providing specialized services such as child psychological testing and counseling treatment, and parenting coaching for parents to prevent child abuse.
Moreover, to mark Child Abuse Prevention Day, the district plans to run a campaign throughout November using large electronic billboards to raise awareness about emotional abuse and promote the eradication of child abuse.
Lee Soo-hee, Mayor of Gangdong District, said, “The best way to prevent child abuse is to pay closer attention to those around us and detect children at risk early. We will continue to cooperate with related organizations and make further efforts until the day child abuse is eradicated.”
“Please devote all your efforts to protecting our children in danger.”
Kim Tae-woo, Mayor of Gangseo District, Seoul, presented appointment letters to new members and child protectors at the ‘Gangseo Child Protectors Launching Ceremony’ on the 16th and earnestly urged them to work hard to prevent child abuse.
On the same day, to mark the 16th Child Abuse Prevention Day (November 19), the district held the ‘Gangseo Child Protectors Launching Ceremony’ at the Gangseo Lifelong Learning Center, where the child protectors will play a frontline role in preventing child abuse.
Composed of 49 child committee members, ‘Gangseo Child Protectors’ will engage in various activities to promote child welfare at the local level, including monitoring children, reporting suspected child abuse cases, and conducting child abuse prevention campaigns.
Following the appointment ceremony, participants read the declaration of practice, reaffirming their commitment to ‘eradicate child abuse prevention,’ and received training on mandatory reporting for child abuse prevention to enhance their expertise.
Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “It is very unfortunate that children, who should grow up bright and full of laughter, sometimes suffer abuse due to poor home environments. We will spare no support to enable Gangseo Child Protectors, who have taken on the important role of preventing child abuse, to actively carry out their activities.”
The district has made ‘Gangseo, a good place to raise children’ a key pledge and is striving to create a Gangseo District where all families are happy.
In particular, on the 3rd, Gangseo District was recognized by UNICEF as a local government with a child-friendly environment where all children under 18 live well, receiving an advanced certification as a Child-Friendly City.
