[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Kim Hyewon] The National Tax Service (NTS) announced on the 17th that starting next year, disability certification documents required for year-end tax settlement personal deductions will be collectively collected from the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs and provided through Hometax.
This measure aims to enhance tax administration convenience by eliminating the procedure where workers or dependents had to directly obtain disability certification documents and submit them to their companies. Currently, the electronic braille service for 12 types of civil petition certificates is planned to be expanded to 27 types within the year.
On the same day, the NTS signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) related to Hometax with the Korea Federation of Organizations of the Disabled and the Korea Association of Organizations of the Disabled at the Irum Center in Yeouido, Seoul, agreeing to improve services to create a barrier-free Hometax for disabled users.
The signing ceremony was attended by Kim Taeho, Deputy Commissioner of the NTS; Kim Dongbeom, Secretary General of the Korea Association of Organizations of the Disabled; and Jeong Uicheol, Secretary General of the Korea Federation of Organizations of the Disabled.
The NTS currently provides electronic braille services for visually impaired users and sign language videos for hearing-impaired users on Hometax, and operates the Hands and Mouth Center where text and video inquiries can be made to the National Tax Counseling Center. However, feeling the limitations in developing services for the disabled, the NTS decided to identify difficulties faced by disabled users in using Hometax by disability type through disabled organizations and reflect these in the services.
The organizations that signed the agreement will identify inconveniences related to Hometax use, tax filing, and civil petition certificates experienced by disabled persons, communicate them to the NTS, and test new services in advance to provide feedback for improvements.
