[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The ruling party criticized a pro-Democratic Party media outlet for releasing the list of victims of the Itaewon accident without the consent of the bereaved families, regardless of whether they are pro-Yoon or non-Yoon factions.
On the 15th, Jeong Jin-seok, the emergency committee chairman of the People Power Party, stated on his social network service (SNS), "Releasing the list of victims without the consent of the bereaved families inflicts further wounds on their pain," and added, "Legal action is definitely necessary."
He said, "I was also fined hundreds of millions of won for releasing the list of the Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union without consent," emphasizing, "I and the People Power Party will not ignore the tragic pain faced by the bereaved families of the Itaewon victims. We will do our best to uncover the truth and find solutions."
He also urged the Democratic Party, which supports the release of the Itaewon victims' list, to "immediately stop the shameless act of exploiting the tragedy of the Itaewon disaster to shield Lee Jae-myung, even at this late stage."
Yoo Seung-min, a representative non-Yoon faction candidate for party leadership, also criticized via SNS, saying, "The Tamasa and Mindeulle must bear all legal responsibility for releasing the list and deserve moral condemnation," and demanded, "The Democratic Party and its leader Lee Jae-myung must clearly state their position on the list release by Tamasa and Mindeulle."
He raised his voice, saying, "On the 9th, Leader Lee demanded the release of the victim list, saying, 'In any disaster, do people offer incense and mourn when there are no names or faces?' However, in any disaster, if the bereaved families do not wish it, neither names nor faces should be disclosed. That is the rule of law and the protection of human dignity and value."
Former lawmaker Yoo said, "It is the role of politicians and the National Assembly to investigate the causes of the disaster, hold the state accountable, and devise measures to prevent recurrence," adding, "However, exploiting the disaster for political gain while infringing on the rights of victims and their families is absolutely unacceptable."
