[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Lee Jun-hyung] A job fair exclusively for foreign-invested companies was held. The companies participating in the fair are expected to newly hire about 1,700 people.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that it will hold the "17th Foreign-Invested Companies Job Fair" for two days from the 14th to the 15th at COEX in Seoul. The foreign-invested companies job fair is hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and jointly organized by KOTRA, the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and the Financial Supervisory Service. It has been held annually since 2006, marking its 17th edition this year.

This year, 175 foreign-invested companies participated in the fair, the largest scale ever. Among the 175 participating companies, 25% (43 companies) participated for the first time. Additionally, 17 of the participating companies are Fortune 500 companies. There are also 58 companies listed in the Forbes Global 2000.

Specifically, well-known global companies in Korea such as Citibank Korea, BASF Korea, and 3M Korea participated in large numbers. There are also global companies in advanced industries such as semiconductors and biotechnology. Applied Materials Korea, the world's number one semiconductor equipment company, and Equinix, a global digital infrastructure company, are representative examples. Cytiva, which produces vaccine raw and subsidiary materials, also participated in this year's fair.

The expected hiring scale of the fair is about 1,700 people. Compared to last year (about 800 people), it has more than doubled. The 175 participating companies plan to accept resumes on-site. Among them, 87 companies that received resumes in advance during the pre-registration period will conduct on-site interviews immediately for those who pass the document screening and proceed with hiring.

The recruitment briefing sessions and special employment lectures will be live-streamed online for participants from regions where on-site attendance is difficult. After the on-site fair ends, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy plans to encourage some participating companies to join a metaverse fair and conduct online consultations as well.

Moon Dong-min, Director of the Trade and Investment Office at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, said, "As of last year, about 15,000 foreign-invested companies account for 5.6% of total domestic employment, playing a significant role in job creation," adding, "I hope the fair will be a great opportunity for Korea's outstanding talents to get employed by global companies and grow."
