[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-seop] U.S. President Joe Biden sparked controversy due to a slip of the tongue at the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) summit.

According to major foreign media on the 13th, President Biden mistakenly referred to Cambodia, the chair country of ASEAN this year, as Colombia during the meeting with ASEAN leaders the previous day. Biden said, "I thank the Prime Minister of Colombia for demonstrating leadership as the ASEAN chair." He did not correct his slip afterward.

Born in 1942 and of advanced age, Biden has repeatedly made verbal slips since becoming president. On the 28th of last month, ahead of the U.S. midterm elections, he used the phrase "54 states" at a Democratic Party event. The United States has 50 states, which is common knowledge among Americans.

Meanwhile, President Biden expressed gratitude to Hun Sen, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, who condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
