CoAsia Optics Q3 Sales Reach 79.4 Billion Won... "Strengthening Camera Module Competitiveness"

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Camera module company CoAsia Optics announced on the 11th that it recorded sales of 79.4 billion KRW and an operating loss of 4.6 billion KRW on a consolidated basis in the third quarter. Cumulative sales for the third quarter reached 298.3 billion KRW, with an operating profit of 200 million KRW.

Weakening smartphone demand affected the performance. Inflation concerns have led central banks worldwide to raise interest rates, and consumption has slowed due to the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war.

A company official said, "Apart from external factors, various performance improvement elements are emerging, such as securing cost competitiveness through vertical integration and the adoption of new smartphone models by major clients."

CoAsia Optics mainly supplies camera modules for Samsung Electronics' budget model 'Galaxy A' series. According to industry sources, starting from the second half of this year, the company began supplying modules for under-display cameras (UDC) for the new foldable phone series 'Galaxy Z Fold4' for the first time.

The official explained, "Along with equipping foldable phones, the supply range for the Galaxy A series is expanding from the front to high-spec rear cameras," adding, "Differentiation will be possible by producing and supplying lenses and modules together."

Since this year, CoAsia Optics has been supplying 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera lenses and modules placed on the rear of the Galaxy A53.
