[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Busan Metropolitan City Special Judicial Police Department will conduct a special crackdown on harmful environments for youth from the 17th to the 25th, immediately after the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), focusing on entertainment districts densely populated with youth such as Seomyeon Youth Street and Nampo-dong BIFF Square, as well as areas around universities.
This special crackdown is a measure to preemptively block potential hazards that may arise from the excited atmosphere caused by examinees who took the CSAT and others immediately after the exam.
The special judicial police will be organized into 7 teams with 27 inspectors.
The inspection teams will focus on youth-harmful establishments such as soju bars, hof houses, entertainment and danran pubs, and video rooms (DVD rooms), targeting ▲ youth entry and employment at harmful establishments ▲ sale of harmful substances such as alcoholic beverages and cigarettes to youth ▲ failure to display notices restricting youth entry and employment at youth-harmful establishments ▲ and mixed-gender lodging of youth at accommodation facilities.
As a result of the crackdown, if the owner of a youth-harmful establishment employs youth, they face imprisonment for up to 3 years or a fine of up to 30 million won, and if the owner or staff of an establishment prohibiting youth entry and employment allows youth to enter, they face imprisonment for up to 2 years or a fine of up to 20 million won.
Additionally, if alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, or other harmful substances are sold to youth, the offender faces imprisonment for up to 2 years or a fine of up to 20 million won.
A representative of the Busan Special Judicial Police stated, “We will continue to conduct crackdowns to establish a healthy youth culture.”
