Next Year Aramco Saudi Ladies International Total Prize Money Increased from $1 Million to $5 Million
[Asia Economy Reporter Seohee Lee] The total prize money for the Aramco Saudi Ladies International, a European Ladies' Professional Golf (LET) tournament sponsored by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF), will increase to $5 million (approximately 6.8 billion KRW) next year.
LET announced on the 9th (local time) that it has agreed with PIF to raise the total prize money for the Aramco Saudi Ladies International from $1 million to $5 million, more than five times, starting next year. The winner's prize will also increase to $750,000.
As a result, the total prize money for the Aramco Saudi Ladies International now matches that of the men's golf tournament sponsored by PIF, the Asian Professional Golf Tour PIF Saudi International. The $750,000 winner's prize is also the third largest in LET. This means that Saudi Arabia, notorious for gender discrimination, has set equal prize money for men's and women's professional golf tournaments.
The increased prize money will be applied starting from the tournament held next February at the Royal Greens Golf & Country Club in King Abdullah Economic City, Saudi Arabia.
The 120 players participating in the Aramco Saudi Ladies International have included many top stars from the LPGA Tour. In 2020, Emily Kristine Pedersen (Denmark) became the inaugural champion, and last year Lydia Ko (New Zealand) won. This year's winner is Georgia Hall (England).
Additionally, this tournament is held just before the LPGA Tour Honda Classic, and it is expected to influence the list of players participating in the Honda Classic.
