[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Hyung-gil] Doosan Yeon-gang Foundation held the '2022 Doosan Yeon-gang Environmental Academic Award' ceremony on the 9th at Jeju Shinhwa World and announced that Professor Chu Kwang-ho of Kyungpook National University received a prize of 20 million won, while Professor Lee Byung-kyu of Ulsan University and Professor Cho Kyung-hwa of Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology each received 10 million won and plaques.


Professor Chu was selected as the awardee for proposing a method to significantly reduce biological contamination by irradiating ultraviolet light to disrupt the signaling system between microorganisms.


Professor Lee revealed that by manufacturing an organic photocatalyst, harmful pollutants such as antibiotics in water can be removed and hydrogen peroxide can be produced under atmospheric conditions, while Professor Cho found a method for safe drinking water supply by predicting harmful algal blooms in the Nakdong River using deep learning techniques.


The Doosan Yeon-gang Environmental Academic Award was established in 2019 as a continuation of the environmental safety research funding project conducted by the Doosan Yeon-gang Foundation from 1993 to 2017, aiming to support the development of environmental science in Korea and to encourage the research motivation of those working in the environmental field.
