[Seoul District News] Gwangjin-gu Secures 2.344 Billion KRW in National and City Subsidies for Eco-Friendly Road Cleaning Vehicles, Highest Among Seoul Districts & Plans Nationwide First Hydrogen Cleaning Vehicle Pilot Operation Next Year for ESG Leadership ... Guro-gu Attracts 6 Electric Vehicle Fast Charging Stations at Gocheok Sky Dome
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) has secured the highest amount among Seoul’s autonomous districts, 2.344 billion KRW, as a subsidy for purchasing eco-friendly road cleaning vehicles, and will take the lead in ESG administration by conducting the nation’s first pilot operation of hydrogen cleaning vehicles.
Road re-suspended dust is dust generated from automobile exhaust gases, tire wear, brake pad wear, etc., which is transferred into the atmosphere by vehicle movement. It contains harmful substances and is more detrimental to human health than ordinary dust.
Gwangjin-gu has continuously negotiated and applied for projects with central government agencies and Seoul City to efficiently suppress road re-suspended dust and provide residents with a safe and clean living environment.
As a result, this year it was selected for the Ministry of Environment’s road re-suspended dust reduction project and Seoul City’s road cleaning vehicle expansion project, securing a total project budget of 2.344 billion KRW, including 1.702 billion KRW in national funds and 642 million KRW in city funds as of October.
This subsidy amount is the highest among Seoul’s autonomous districts for eco-friendly cleaning vehicle purchases.
The district plans to use the subsidy to contract for one hydrogen waste cleaning vehicle and one hydrogen road surface water spraying vehicle by the end of the year, with operations starting next year.
The hydrogen waste cleaning vehicle is an 11-ton class compressed sweeper used for collecting recyclables, and the hydrogen road surface water spraying vehicle is equipped with a 6-ton capacity water tank and a water pump with a capacity of 1,000 liters per minute.
Notably, these hydrogen cleaning vehicles use hydrogen fuel cells from the engine to the cleaning motor and will be the first in the nation to be operated on a pilot basis.
Additionally, in May, Gwangjin-gu purchased two eco-friendly dust suction cleaning vehicles and opened the nation’s first mobile hydrogen refueling station in the district, playing a leading role in creating a clean and clear city through ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) administration.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “I am pleased to have secured the largest subsidy for eco-friendly cleaning vehicles in Seoul, allowing us to provide a better living environment for our residents. We will also maintain existing cleaning vehicles diligently and rapidly convert diesel cleaning vehicles to eco-friendly ones to create a healthy city where residents can breathe cleaner air.”
Guro-gu (Mayor Moon Heon-il) announced on the 7th that it has been selected for Seoul City’s ‘Seoul-type Electric Vehicle Concentrated Charging Station Installation Project’ and will install an electric vehicle concentrated charging station at Gocheok Sky Dome.
The Seoul-type concentrated charging station is a facility where three or more rapid chargers are intensively installed and open 24 hours to allow electric vehicle users to charge without waiting. In April, the district proposed four candidate sites to Seoul City, and the south side of Gocheok Sky Dome (next to the soccer field) was selected as the final site for the charging station.
The district secured the entire project cost of 200 million KRW from city funds and plans to finalize the contractor and begin construction within this month.
The concentrated charging station to be installed at Gocheok Sky Dome will have six ultra-fast chargers with a capacity of 200 kW each. Considering that the existing rapid chargers installed in the Guro-gu Office parking lot have a capacity of 100 kW, charging time can be reduced by nearly half.
The district plans to complete pilot operation by June 2023 and open the facility to the general public.
A Guro-gu official said, “By attracting a concentrated charging station to Gocheok Sky Dome, which has high demand and good accessibility, we expect more residents to conveniently charge their electric vehicles. We will continue to do our best to build charging infrastructure so that electric vehicle users do not experience inconvenience.”
