[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] Son Heung-min (30), who collapsed due to an injury during the match, will undergo surgery for a facial fracture. As a result, his participation in the Qatar World Cup has become uncertain, raising concerns about difficulties in maintaining the strength of the South Korean national football team.

According to AFP on the 2nd (local time), the English professional football team Tottenham announced that Son Heung-min collided strongly with the shoulder of Marseille's Chancel Mbemba while contesting an aerial ball in the 23rd minute of the first half during the 6th and final away match of Group D in the 2022-2023 UEFA Champions League (UCL) group stage held at Stade V?lodrome in Marseille, France, and collapsed.

Son Heung-min experienced bleeding from his nose, and the area around his nose and eyes swelled significantly. After medical staff checked his condition, Son left the field around the 27th minute of the first half and headed straight to the tunnel. Yves Bissouma was substituted in for him at the 29th minute of the first half.

Tottenham stated, "Son Heung-min is scheduled to undergo surgery to stabilize the fractured left eye area," adding, "After the surgery, Son will begin rehabilitation with the club's medical staff. Further information will be provided at an appropriate time."
