Broadcasters Urged to Comply with Disaster Reporting Guidelines
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] On the morning of the 31st, the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) held a countermeasure meeting on the Itaewon accident chaired by Chairman Han Sang-hyuk and checked the response status in the broadcasting and communications sector.
The KCC requested terrestrial broadcasters, general programming and news channel program providers (PPs), and others to comply with the disaster reporting guidelines established by the five major press organizations and to thoroughly implement safety measures to prevent accidents during large-scale events hosted by broadcasters.
To prevent the distribution of malicious posts containing cruel, hateful, or shocking scenes related to the accident, cooperation was also requested from major internet service providers according to their internal regulations.
The Korea Communications Standards Commission was asked to take prompt action against information violating broadcasting and communications review regulations.
Additionally, the KCC will maintain a close cooperative system with the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters regarding the Itaewon accident. During the national mourning period, the KCC also urged all employees and related organizations to establish strict work discipline.
