"Right Now, Damage Control Is the Top Priority"

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Park Hong-geun, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 31st regarding the 'Itaewon crowd crush accident,' "We will cooperate swiftly and across party lines to manage the disaster."
On this day, Park began at the Democratic Party's Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly in the morning by saying, "I once again offer my condolences to all those who tragically lost their lives in the Itaewon disaster."
He stated, "Right now, managing the aftermath of the accident is the top priority above all else," adding, "Until all processes of managing the disaster, including the funerals of the victims and treatment of the injured, are completed, nothing should be neglected."
Park emphasized, "Especially, we must ensure that the bereaved families, who are in deep sorrow, do not have to express frustration due to insufficient follow-up measures for funerals as happened yesterday," and requested, "Once again, I urge the government authorities to make every effort."
He continued, "The National Assembly will also cooperate swiftly and across party lines in managing the disaster."
Park explained, "The National Assembly will hold a meeting of the Administrative Safety Committee, the relevant standing committee, tomorrow (the 1st), to receive reports from the Minister of the Interior and Safety, the National Police Agency, and the National Fire Agency regarding the circumstances of the disaster and the management measures."
He said, "This will be the government's first official report to the public and the National Assembly, within the scope that does not interfere with the urgent recovery activities of the related agencies," and added, "The Democratic Party will promptly consider all measures at the National Assembly level that the government authorities and victims require for proper management of the disaster."
