[Itaewon Tragedy] Ruling Party Requests Observance of National Mourning Period with "Wearing Black Ribbons and Refraining from Festival Events"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Hyun-ji] Regarding President Yoon Seok-yeol's declaration of a national mourning period for the 'Itaewon Halloween Disaster,' the People Power Party has requested internal cooperation on urgent action guidelines such as wearing black ribbons and refraining from attending events.


In an official letter signed by the party secretary-general, the People Power Party stated, "The government has designated today (the 30th) as the start of the national mourning period until the accident recovery is completed, prioritizing accident recovery and follow-up measures as the top national agenda and concentrating all administrative efforts." The party added, "It is time for the party to mourn with the people in sorrow and focus its efforts on accident recovery."


They further urged, "All party branch chairpersons, local government heads, local council members, and all party members should do their best in their respective duties and actively work to help heal the pain of the entire nation, even if only a little," requesting compliance with the urgent action guidelines.


The guidelines include ▲caution in speech and behavior ▲refraining from unnecessary public activities and private gatherings ▲abstaining from drinking and posting on social media ▲wearing black ribbons at official events ▲refraining from attending festival events and postponing events ▲removal of political slogan banners.


The People Power Party emphasized, "To swiftly establish accident recovery and preventive measures for the safety and lives of the people, local regions must fully cooperate with the action guidelines."
